Dry Wednesday PM-Friday
Coastal Storm Weekend Into Next Week?
Weather conditions continue to improve tonight across Long Island and that includes the wind which has dropped off considerably and will continue to drop off overnight. Temperatures tonight won’t be as low as last night’s record lows at Islip (39). We should bottom 10 degrees higher in the upper 40s to around 50. Radar is quiet and the satellite shows clear skies but it also shows clouds to the west making their way eastward.
Long Island Rain Late Tuesday Radar Loops
Clouds will thicken Tuesday and we will get into some light rain later Tuesday and Tuesday night. The morning commute will be fine. Highs will be in the low to mid 60s. The rain is going to gradually sink southward Tuesday night and it should be gone by Wednesday morning. In fact we should see skies go partly sunny Wednesday afternoon. Highs Wednesday will reach the upper 60s. Thursday and Friday look like 2 good days with sunshine and highs reaching 70.

Weekend Weather Woes GFS Model Saturday Upper Air
Weekend Weather Woes Euro Model Sunday Morning Upper Air
Both the Euro model and the GFS model (and the Canadian too) show this idea where the southern stream system attempts to “cut off” or separate from the main northern jet. If this happens we could be in a situation where a coastal low forms and keeps us in a wet onshore flow for several days. We are getting to the time of year where these systems can separate and hang around for days at a time.

Weekend Weather Woes Euro Model Sunday Morning Upper Air
The surface looks of both the Euro Model & the GFS model are very similar here. Now a look like this would mean a prolonged periods of wind and rain. However I want to be cautious because we went through something like this 2 weeks ago which wound up playing out a bit differently than orignally modeled. Should this cut off as advertised it would mean deteriorating weather conditions over the weekend into next week with rather cool raw conditions. Unfortunately from the standpoint of tides we will be heading toward a full moon this weekend and this means there could be coastal flooding issues if this plays out they way the models indicate.
Of course the question of it cutting off is key. Should the northern jet be more important it would be another case of a weather system being supressed further south than currently advertised.
