Long Island Rain Into Saturday Evening
The warm front to the south has moved northward. This is a fairly deep tropical air mass we are in that temperatures are in the 70s even though we have a southeast to south wind off the ocean. Humidity levels are high. We have seen a few waves of rain mainly from Nassau County westward into New York City so far. I would expect to see some waves of showers developing into this evening from off the ocean that will impact Long Island from time to time the rest of today and into the first part of tonight.
With our area clearly in the warm sector we will have to wait for low pressure to develop to the south of Long Island tonight before rains begin to sweep in from the southwest. One of the things that is happening is that the upper trough that is swinging in from the west is slower and deeper which is allowing more time for the coastal low to develop and set off a band of rain on the southwest side of the low. This could mean rain into at least Saturday afternoon for Long Island so rainfall amounts have grown a little more bullish.
Look for it to get a bit windy later Saturday and Saturday evening as the low to the northeast strengthens. I think we could see wind gusts in the 30 to 40 mph range later Saturday afternoon and evening
As far as temperatures go, I think both Saturday and Sunday we will be spending both days in the 50s. Sunday morning we will be down in the lower 40s. By Sunday we should see a mix of sun and clouds and it will be the better of the 2 days.
