We have seen 2 spectacular days of weather on Long Island with sunshine and highs barely above 80 in most places. Eastern Long Island and the shore have been topping in the comfortably cool middle 70s. Now we start a transition toward a warmer more humid air mass for the first half of the weekend. But Friday it will still be bright and sunny with highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s and reasonable humidity.
Satellite shows the next cold front swinging out of the Plains and into the Upper Midwest. It will be approaching Long Island with the threat for thunderstorms Saturday aftenroon. Saturday will be the one very warm very humid day. Highs could approach 90 degrees especially in Northern Nassau and Northwestern Suffolk.
Once the thunderstorms are done, another dry air mass follows. This sets us up for a delightful day of weather Sunday. Lots of sunshine is in the cards for Sunday with low humidity and highs in the middle 80s.
Long Island Severe Weather Threat
With this cold front coming through on Saturday and the warm humid air mass in place, there is the threat for thunderstorms. The Storm Prediction Center of the National Weather Service does indicate Long Island at a marginal risk for severe weather. We know how thunderstorms approaching Long Island like to fall apart before they move through so that is certainly a consideration.
