Long Island Temperatures 30 Degrees Lower Today
What a difference 24 hours makes. Clouds plus an ocean wind equals Long Island temperatures 30 degrees colder than they were at this time yesterday! No precipitation is on the radar however if some drizzle or patchy areas of very light rain show up overnight, don’t be surprised. The same backdoor cold front that came through overnight will be coming back the other way late tonight into Monday morning. Warmer air will return on a south southwest wind on Monday but that is off the ocean so I think 60s will do it for highs though areas to the west will probably be in the 70s. Monday we should see clouds and some sun. Monday night showers and possibly a thunderstorm is forecast with a cold front moving through. Weather conditions will improve for Tuesday and Wednesday however the pattern longer term looks quite wet and bleak beginning on Thursday.
We have been talking about a “blocking” pattern developing in the North Atlantic and this is not a positive for nice spring weather on Long Island. In fact it may start off a rather wet and cool stretch of weather with rain developing later on Thursday and lasting into at least the start of next weekend.

Weather models are bullish for a soaking rain of a couple of inches from this system as the GFS model among others indicates. The pattern looks to last well into the week of May 8-15th which probably means cooler than average temperatures, more days with winds off the ocean, and chances for more rain along the way.
