Long Island Weather Damp & Dreary
Long Island Weather Damp & Dreary
On & Off Rain Drizzle Into Sunday
REMINDER: JOE CIOFFI WILL BE AT THE HICKSVILLE LIBRARY
ON WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 5TH AT 7:15PM
All the players are in place to put Long Island weather into the land of the damp and dreary into early Sunday. Right now on the satellite loop you can see the moisture along the coast and in the ocean. Low clouds came right in today once the onshore flow began. To the west the upper air storm over the Great Lakes is diving south southeastward into the Ohio Valley. The question is how much of the heavier waves of rain will Long Island see. Right now we think there won’t be much rain through Thursday other than some light rain or drizzle that comes in from off the ocean. The first wave of steadier rain should come in late Thursday night and for Friday.
Right now on the radar the rain and showers to the west look to probably stay to the west. There will be that first wave of rain late Thursday night and Friday and then another wave of steady rain later Saturday into Sunday morning. It won’t be until Sunday afternoon at the earliest and possibly not until Monday that we see some improvement. Temperatures through at least Saturday will be struggling in the low to mid 60s. Perhaps on Sunday if the onshore flow relaxes we could break above 70. Rainfall forecast amounts are in the 1 to 2 inch range and there is no change in that forecast.
Longer term next week another big high will build down from the north and set up an onshore flow again. Plus we have the uncertainty of Tropical Storm Matthew which we will be address in separate posts on meteorologistjoecioffi.com.
