Noreaster Conditions & Heavy Rains Long Island This Weekend
Looking at the last couple of model cycle runs it seems that the little storm that develops along the Delaware coast Saturday night may wind up being quite the rain and wind producer Saturday night into Sunday morning for Long Island. A tight little low and a tight pressure gradient would argue for a short period of gales for Long Island particularly right along the immediate coast. In addition a strong inflow of moisture from the Atlantic could mean a sizable rainfall of several inches in some places.

Rainfall amounts on the latest GFS would argue for 3 to 4 inches which will cause local flooding problems. The NAM model late this afternoon would argue in favor of this. At this point we think the possibility of 2 or more inches of rain is high. We will watch to see if model runs going forward continue this rather consistent view that we have been seeing., This would be for later Saturday morning for the rain arriving on Long Island with the heaviest rain later in the afternoon and Saturday night. There might be some leftover rain Sunday morning before the storm system pulls away.
Meanwhile tonight like the last few nights some clouds that are rotating around a strong upper air storm to the northeast will likely thin out and skies should partially clear overnight with lows in the cool 40s. Thursday is looking like a good day overall with partly sunny skies. High could reach into the 60s briefly before the ocean wind takes over and cools it off in the afternoon.
Friday looks ok with sunshine giving way to arriving clouds. Highs will be in the upper 50s to near 60. Then we cloud up Friday night with some drizzle possible into Saturday morning before the heavier rains arrive in the afternoon and at night.
