Northwest Flow Through the Weekend Cold Saturday Sunday

Chance for Snow Monday Night Tuesday

This morning we saw what happens under clear skies and light winds. Temperatures fall off the wall and it got down to 9 above this morning in Westhampton. Most lows on Long Island were in the teens to low 20s. We will not be as cold tonight thanks to a little bit of a breeze, at least enough to hold temperatures up. We may also have a mix of clear skies and some clouds and that should combine to keep temperatures from falling much lower than the mid to upper 20s Friday morning.

Our satellite shows that we on the edge of a hole of clear skies with clouds both to the north and well to the south. Snow showers in lake effect areas of upstate NY will continue for another day or so.

Friday we will see sun giving way to clouds as a cold front moves through Friday night. It marks the leading edge of colder air and there could be a few scattered snow showers Friday evening. Otherwise it will be cold and clear with lows in the upper teens to mid 20s Saturday morning. Saturday look for sunshine breezy and cold conditions on Long Island with highs just in the lower 30s. Sunday looks sunny and cold with highs in the middle 30s.

Monday we will see increasing clouds as a storm system heads our way from the Plains. The low will redevelop east of the Delmarva Peninsula and then head east which puts Long Island in a tough spot. This does not look to be a big storm by any means and being on the northern flank puts in range for a light to moderate snowfall but if the block to the east is too strong this could get suppressed further south. There is an unusually high amount of uncertainty here due to the blocking pattern. We probably won’t have a better idea of the outcome here until the weekend so in the meantime we just keeping watching and tracking. At least the weekend will be cold and dry with no weather issues.
