Rain Wind Friday Night Saturday Morning
Rain Wind Friday Night Saturday Morning
It is rather unusual to see low pressure develop along the Delaware coast the way we see it happen in the late fall to early spring during the summer. But every once in awhile it does happen and this is going to be the case Friday night into Saturday morning for Long Island and the coastal waters. Weather models are taking low pressure and strengthening it as it moves by just to our south Friday night and early Saturday. The result will be some rain and even some gusty winds along the immediate coast during the early morning hours Saturday until about midday.
NAM MODEL WINDS SATURDAY MORNING
The high tides with the new moon are done so I don’t expect anything other than maybe some minor coastal flooding possible at one high tide cycle. Rain amounts could be on the order of an inch or 2 if we get into the main area of heavy rain Friday night. The NAM model is extremely aggressive with rainfall showing 3-5 inch rain amounts. We are not quite ready to buy this yet.
Meanwhile on Long Island this evening it is nice and pleasant with temperatures in the low to mid 70s and we are watching the last few hours of sunshine. Skies should be clear most of tonight.
Thursday we should see a mix of sun and clouds with temperatures in the upper 70s to lower 80s. A cold front might produce a shower or thunderstorm tomorrow evening. The Storm Prediction Center has long Island at a risk for severe weather but I’m wondering whether this may be a bit overstated considering how dry the air is. I don’t expect a big increase in humidity on Thursday. Dynamics aloft are questionable at best. For now we will include the chance for a shower or thunderstorm Thursday evening. The day side should be dry.
Friday we will see increasing clouds with rain developing later in the day and continuing into Saturday morning. While it is raining temperatures will drop into the 60s. Once the storm pulls away weather conditions should begin to improve Saturday afternoon. Sunday looks nice and sunny with highs in the upper 70s to near 80.
