Record Lows Saturday Sunday Morning

It feels like a late December or early January night on Long Island. 8PM temperatures are all in the 20s which is something we have not seen here since probably last April. Winds remain gusty to 30 mph or so making it feel like it’s in the teens so do bundle up if you are headed out tonight.

Looking at the satellite loop this evening we have mostly clear skies as high pressure builds into New York State. The cold wind straight down the Hudson Valley will take temperatures down to near 20 by morning which will set a new record at Islip. We may actually get there at 12:01am if the temperature hits 24.

There is nothing to worry about on the radar through the weekend. Saturday will be mostly sunny with highs back to near 40. Record lows for Sunday morning will depend on the timing of clouds arriving from the west. If they come in overnight that could hold the temperatures a bit higher but most lows should be in the low to mid 20s. Sunday’s highs will depend on cloud cover but highs should reach the upper 40s. Next week the first half looks calm and quiet with some sun each day and highs breaking above 50.

Longer term all signs pointing to blocking in the North Atlantic which will mean a colder pattern will settle in for Thanksgiving. JOESTRADAMUS has more in his latest long range post.
