Snow Evening Commute 2 to 3 Inches
Snow Evening Commute 2 to 3 Inches
Yesterday the snow was for the morning commute. Today it will be the evening commute and a Friday evening in December means a rather busy rush hour. Add snow to this equation and a couple of inches of snow will make driving difficult in most places. Snow looks to break out around mid afternoon and it should be done by mid to late evening so we are talking about another 6 to 8 hour event. It is cold this morning. We saw lows this morning that were down in the low teens to single digits in some places in Suffolk County with Westhampton bottoming out at 2 above zero! Islip’s low was 12.
Based on the morning weather model run we think 2 to maybe 3 inches a good bet and there is always the chance that someone in Suffolk county could skew a little higher than that. The latest HRRR model lines up pretty well with my view.
This would be the third snowfall in six days which is unheard of in the first half of December. The good news is that we may be done for awhile as the weather looks to calm down a bit next week.
As innocent as both the satellite and radar look this morning clouds are beginning to thicken up and we can see streams of moisture coming in as the upper air trough that is going to set this all off is swinging east from the Ohio Valley and a little subtropical juice gets involved a bit from clouds streaming northeastward from the southwest. Look for radars to start blossoming snow out after lunch time.
No issues for the weekend with skies clearing out tonight with lows in the mid teens to near 20. Saturday looks nice with some sunshine and highs in the mid to upper 30s. We should break 40 on Sunday. Sunday night as a weak warm front sets up a little bit of a mix could develop but it shouldn’t amount to much. Then Monday we will see clouds and some sun with highs into the 40s.
