Snow Showers Very Cold Long Island Weekend
This winter has been marked by very short cold periods at the beginning of each winter month and March is starting out the same way. We are temporarily going into a cold winter pattern in the east thanks to a deep upper air trough that has set up along the East Coast. The satellite loop reflects this quite well with the rotation of the clouds northwest to southeast to the coast and then southwest to northeast offshore. Over the Great Lakes we see an upper air disturbance producing snows tonight around the Great Lakes and into Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. Normally this snow would stay there but there is an upper air trough that is swinging through. That will hold a band of snow showers together much like a summer time squall line of showers. They will move through late Friday afternoon and evening which could whiten the ground in spots when it goes by.
The core of the cold air will be here Saturday into Sunday morning. Highs Saturday will be in the lower 30s and lows Sunday morning will be in the low to mid teens.

Just like every cold weather pattern we have seen this winter, this one will pull out Sunday and then its back to the 50s to near 60 by Tuesday when there is the likelihood of showers with the next cold front.
