Spring Sea Breeze Or Summer Heat?
The spring sea breeze finally did kick in late this afternoon and this evening across Long Island and we are seeing temperatures drop 10 or more degrees off their highs of the day along the south shore. The cooler ocean air has had a tougher time working its way toward the north shore but temperatures there too are about 5 degrees off their highs today which were in the upper 70s to some lower 80s. This is the big question over the next 2 days which will probably keep many areas on Long Island under 90 degrees. The best chances for 90 will be in Northern Nassau & Northwestern Suffolk County. This evening some clouds are moving through as a weak disturbance moves overhead but skies will clear overnight as temperatures settle in the 50s. The satellite loop shows clear skies to the west and that air is headed here for the next 2 days.
Wednesday probably holds the best chances for a sea breeze to work its way inland to some degree. Thursday a west wind might dominate most of the day so highs across much of Long Island will reach the 80s before any sea breeze develops and that might not happen until late in the afternoon.

Beyond Thursday we see on more warm day on Friday with highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s before a cold front moves through. No showers are forecast with this front at the moment as the air appears too dry to support anything other than clouds. An onshore flow will take over for the weekend where highs will probably just be in the 60s. For now we are forecasting a rain free weekend though there may be some cloud issues.
