We are getting ready for the first of two rounds of showers and thunderstorms but for the first part of Friday we will just be sitting in clouds with perhaps a break or two of sun at most. The southeast wind from overnight has cooled the atmosphere down. Now we wait for the cold front to approach this afternoon and from mid afternoon until mid evening we will see some showers and a few possible thunderstorms. I don’t think thunderstorms for Long Island will be too strong. In fact the marine layer usually weakens them especially in Suffolk County. You can see the beginnings of those storms on the radars to the west.

Once those storms are done skies will clear Friday night. Saturday starts off with sunshine and we should be fine until about 3pm or so when clouds will come in. The second cold front will produce showers and strong thunderstorms. I think this front has the potential to produce some isolated severe thunderstorms so we need to be on the lookout for this. The Storm Prediction Center will be putting out its forecast later this morning.
Sunday will be windy and chilly with some sunshine and clouds but highs will only be in the lower 60s. Sunday night will be very chilly with Monday morning lows near or even under the 40 degree mark.
